DXC Technology unveils managed multi-cloud services powered by VMware across cloud environments

DXC Technology launched a multi-cloud orchestration, automation and governance solution that transforms managed services delivery across any cloud.

DXC Managed Multi-Cloud Services powered by VMware provides consistent service management at scale and enables clients to maximize investments in VMware for a significant multi-cloud competitive advantage. The new cloud solution was announced here at VMworld Europe.


DXC Managed Multi-Cloud Services powered by VMware accelerates time to market, automates managed services and asset delivery, and helps optimize costs. The new solution delivers software defined networking and enables DevSecOps — all with intrinsic security and governance using IaC across multiple clouds via blueprinting, deployment pipelines, and policies.

OnApp adds NSX support to its VMware portal, simplifies network orchestration with VMware vCenter and vCloud Director

OnApp announced support for VMware's software-defined networking technology, NSX, in the new version of the OnApp cloud management portal. OnApp is a complete cloud management platform for service providers and enterprises. 

For clouds based on VMware vCenter and vCloud Director, OnApp makes cloud management easier and more efficient by automating cloud orchestration, provisioning, templates and packages, user management and metering in one intuitive portal. 



Now OnApp is bringing the same benefits to NSX, to make it easier for VMware cloud operators to combine flexible software-defined networking with their cloud services in the same intuitive user interface.

"We're delighted to bring greater value to our VMWare partnership by unifying the networking power of NSX, the enterprise platforms of vCD and vCenter, and OnApp's rich cloud orchestration and billing functionality," said Tim Meredith, OnApp's Chief Commercial Officer. "Bringing all this together in a single GUI and API makes life easier for VMware cloud operators, and for their customers and users."

OnApp will initially allow VMware cloud operators to manage firewall, NAT, load balancer and VPN services from the OnApp portal, for both vCenter and vCloud Director compute resources. 


It also supplements NSX functionality with the ability to use IP helpers and wizards to allow cloud operators to configure rules and services from within the same interface, instead of having to switch back and forth to retrieve all of the information needed. 

OnApp will initially support VMware NSX-V. Future versions of OnApp will introduce support for the next generation of NSX, NSX-T, in the same user interface and with the same orchestration, pricing and packaging functionality offered by the OnApp portal This will help smooth the transition from NSX-V to NSX-T for VMware cloud operators.

MantisNet and STORDIS partner to boost disaggregated network monitoring to improve detection and response functionality

MantisNet announced on Monday a technology partnership with STORDIS, a European provider of open networking infrastructure solutions and versatile, P4-programmable switches. The goal of the collaboration is to provide customers with advanced features including packet brokers, firewalls and load-balancers, without the need for proprietary, fixed-function hardware.

The partnership’s initial collaboration resulted in a programmable network monitoring fabric that integrated MantisNet’s Reconfigurable Frame Processor (RFP) software into STORDIS’ forward-thinking Advanced Programmable Switches (APS) series, leveraging the Barefoot switch ASICs and the P4 programming language. 



MantisNet’s RFP is a P4-based software programmed to monitor and control the data-plane, better enabling clients to analyze, filter and engineer network traffic (load-balance, shape and parse) compared to the preceding generation of packet brokers, firewalls, load balancers and event management solutions. It generates in-band and out-of-band network telemetry for any and all protocols, in real-time, at wire speeds (from 1G to 100G). 

The RFP further optimizes the resulting metadata or flow data for efficient ingestion into existing SIEM or performance monitoring systems as well as newer forms of streaming AI and ML-based analytic workflows.

The STORDIS APS are OCP Accepted network switches, based on Barefoot’s P4-programmable switch ASIC. The Barefoot ASIC offers the possibility to specifically define the data plane and supports MantisNet’s RFP software, enabling the development of a P4-driven programmable Protocol-Independent Switch Architecture (PISA). 

Advanced features include 1588v2 time stamping, port speeds from 1GbE to 100GbE, most powerful components and multiple management options to enable maximum functionality. Technical specifications of the APS are available for review and the assembly plans are open to the public at the OCP Contributions Database.


This combination enables high-performance, software-driven, monitoring and traffic engineering functions, significantly enhancing DevOps, network and application performance testing, streaming analytics, and cyber security applications.

MantisNet and STORDIS now turn their collaborative approach to engineering, to SDN solutions that can operate within any network; any protocol, any speed and at scale. This provides the best form of investment protection for conventional commercial networks, as well as industrial control systems. Clients of both organizations will benefit from the combined innovation and approach by leveraging the next generation of programmable network infrastructure.

Concordia University aligns with Ericsson and NSERC to create Industrial Research Chair in SDN and NFV security

Concordia University has partnered with Ericsson and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) to create a new Industry Research Chair in Software-Defined Networking and Network Functions Virtualization (SDN/NFV) Security.

Valued at US$1.8 million over five years, the new chair in the Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science brings together industry and academia: graduate students, professors, industrial researchers and subject matter experts to proactively strengthen cybersecurity for the networks of the future. Their aim is to develop novel processes, techniques and technologies for compliance-driven monitoring, attack prevention, detection and mitigation solutions.

In the Ericsson Mobility Report June 2019 edition, as it expands its knowledge and projections for the telecommunications sector, as well as explore what lies ahead for communications service providers as 5G and other technologies emerge, Ericsson expects that by the end of 2024 5G subscriptions will reach 1.9 billion, 35 percent of traffic will be carried by 5G networks and up to 65 percent of the global population could be covered by the technology. This makes it the fastest generation to be rolled out on a global scale.

The 5G networks would be a cornerstone to leverage these devices in different industries from smart cities to smart cars.


Yet, as the IoT grows with the arrival of 5G networks — as for any emerging technology and new development — there is a need to put even stronger emphasis on security. Cloud-based networking may be subjected to unauthorized access, data leaks, side-channel attacks, and more.
